Real School: The Best of DCPS

This was the final episode of REAL School that I produced for Duval County Public Schools. It was nominated for an Emmy in the Education category. When I first took over the show, it had been on air for 10 years yet was still the lowest rated show in it’s time slot. I changed the format from three long features to six shorter features, plus two interstitials and three commercial breaks featuring PSAs. The six features included two Top Teachers, two Top Students, and two Top Programs. Interstitials included My School and Speaks Out. The changes led to the show becoming the #1 Nielsen-rated show in its time slot. It also became the highest-rated local production on our broadcast partner, WJCT and the third-most-watched program of their entire lineup beating out all national PBS shows except two.
